Sixteen states across Nigeria have adopted a harmonised tax framework designed to tackle the long-standing challenge of multiple taxation.
The adoption marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to streamline tax administration at the subnational level. Multiple taxation has for years been cited as a major obstacle for businesses operating across state lines, often resulting in compliance burdens and duplicated levies.
The harmonised framework is expected to standardise tax categories, eliminate redundant charges, and create a more predictable fiscal environment for taxpayers and investors alike.
