Chaka, Nigeria's first SEC-licensed digital sub-broker, has launched **Hisa**, a new investment app designed for retail investors across Nigeria. The platform provides access to Nigerian stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), replacing the existing Chaka application.
The name Hisa, a Swahili word meaning "shares," signals the company's ambition to position itself as a pan-African investment platform rather than a Nigeria-specific operator. Existing Chaka users retain their portfolios and account histories after updating the app, while new users can sign up directly through the Hisa app, now available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The rebrand reflects a strategic shift in how the company approaches retail investing. While much of the past decade's fintech focus in Africa centred on building market infrastructure and lowering barriers to entry, the company now believes the harder problem is adoption. Many potential investors remain excluded not because products are unavailable, but because those products often feel intimidating due to hidden fees, complicated interfaces, and fragmented user experiences.
Hisa is designed to address that layer of the challenge. The app introduces a redesigned investing experience built around simplicity, transparency, and automation — aiming to attract both existing investors and first-time users who have never participated in public markets.
The move aligns with broader trends across African fintech, where regional scale is increasingly viewed as a competitive advantage. The company is betting that the next growth phase for retail investing on the continent will come not from new infrastructure, but from platforms that combine regulatory credibility with intuitive, accessible design.
Chaka was Nigeria's first digital sub-broker to receive a licence from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Its evolution into Hisa represents the company's latest effort to expand retail investor participation across Nigeria and, eventually, other African markets.
