New legal provisions are introducing simplified tax return mechanisms designed to ease the path to formalisation for Nigeria's micro-enterprises operating in the informal economy.
The initiative targets small-scale operators who have historically remained outside the tax system due to complex filing requirements and compliance costs. Under the framework, eligible micro-businesses would benefit from streamlined documentation, reduced reporting obligations, and a simpler filing process intended to lower the barrier to tax registration.
The move reflects a broader policy effort to widen the tax base without imposing disproportionate burdens on the country's smallest economic actors.
