Nigeria's push toward a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030 gained fresh momentum on Tuesday, as the Federal Government highlighted new data showing real Gross Domestic Product expanded by 4.43 percent in the second quarter of 2026.
The National Bureau of Statistics figures show the Q2 2026 growth rate outpaced the 4.23 percent recorded in the corresponding period of 2025 and the 3.89 percent posted in the first quarter of 2026. Growth for the first half of the year also climbed to 4.16 percent, up from 3.68 percent a year earlier.
The Federal Ministry of Finance said the expansion is becoming more broad-based, noting that 27 economic subsectors grew by more than 3 percent during the quarter. Manufacturing, agriculture, services, and oil and gas all recorded positive output.
According to the government, continued reforms, stronger production and improving economic conditions could support the ambition of reaching a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The key challenge, however, remains ensuring that stronger GDP growth translates into more jobs, greater investment and improved living standards for Nigerians.
